Blurb

Hey I just got this e-mail from Blurb... Sweet!

Greetings Blurbarian,

We're happy, ecstatic even, to announce one of our most significant releases of Blurb BookSmart™ ... ever. BookSmart Beta 1.7.2, now available for download, and free for Mac or PC, includes several new features we're sure you'll like.

Here's the scoop:

# New book sizes - By very popular demand we now offer two new distinct sizes: a large format landscape 13x11 book (starting at $54.95 and available in hardcover with dust jacket only) and a square 7x7 book (starting at $12.95 and available in both hardcover and softcover). The large format landscape 13x11 book is a true "coffee-table" book ideal for photographers, while the "highly holdable" quality of the square 7x7 makes it ideal for graphic artists, poets, marketers, and gift-givers who want a smaller, less expensive book.

# Blog Slurper updates - We've added Blogger and LiveJournal to the blogs we already support (WordPress.com and TypePad). Automatically slurp your blog content – text and pictures – into a professionally designed book template, and produce a draft book in minutes.

# iPhoto integration - Mac users: No need to import your photos from iPhoto anymore. iPhoto photo libraries, albums, rolls, and individual images now automatically show up in BookSmart.

# New text features - Support for vertical line spacing and smart quotes gives you more text control.

Also, a reminder that Blurb's Set Your Price program is available, growing, and worth checking out if you have a book you'd like to sell. Set Your Price enables you to sell books in Blurb's Bookstore at a price you determine, plus you get to keep 100% of the profits.

So go ahead and download BookSmart Beta 1.7.2. Don't worry, all of your previous books and books in process will be retained.

As always, visit our online Help area if you have questions, suggestions, or need assistance.

Happy bookmaking from your friends at Blurb.

Alright, come clean...

Who tried to burn down the VCB? This seriously makes it difficult to make my color profile... *snort*

The CIA is in my medicine cabinet

One Idea I'm tossing around for the self portraiture project. Spy camera kind of stuff, which will be photoshopped and what not... I'm not sure if I'm going to use this idea for my final prints, but I kind of like how they look.

Mapateng Stephina Mogafe

This is my first piece in my latest series of work which are portraits of farm and domestic workers in South Africa. The artwork is a 42"x34" collage of digital prints on an uncoated Japanese paper.

Solarplate

This is one of the images I'm using in the solarplate collaboration. I'm going to montage her into a scene, and do a lot more work to this image, but here's what I'm working with.

Dolphins I-Santa Barbara, CA

This image was captured using a Nikon D70. These are dolphins which were part of a giant superpod of hundreds of dolphins surrounding our boat as we cruised near Santa Barbara, CA. I printed this for my mom so I made the water a little greener.

I wonder how best to highlight travel photography from different places. Rather than grouping by place, maybe it would be useful to group by subject matter (city, wildlife, landscapes, trees, sunsets) etc. This is one image I would like to eventually include in a travel book of sorts.
Remember to submit work for the Illumination show at the Baxter. Entries due on February 24th between 12 and 6.
Our print profiling software has been updated. Hopefully things will run more smoothly. Let me know.

Bozeman old and new

Another image from my Bozeman re-photographic project. The old barn and the new construction. I am sure it will not be long before the barn is gone. This image was made on October 7th 2006. I hope to return to the same spot in the next few weeks to make the first re-photograph.

Photographed with an old Sinar P with a 240mm lens. It sure is fun hauling that hunk of metal around town.
